The Project

The Thomas de Hartmann Project was initiated in 2006 by pianist Elan Sicroff and guitarist Robert Fripp, with the aim of bringing the music of the Russian composer Thomas de Hartmann back to public awareness.

Born in Ukraine in 1885, he rose to fame with the production of his ballet La Fleurette Rouge in St. Petersburg and Moscow at the beginning of the 20th century, and later had a distinguished career in France during the 1930s and 1940s. However, by the time of his death in 1956 his music had fallen into near obscurity. With the recent release on Nimbus Alliance Records of de Hartmann’s music for solo piano, voice and chamber ensemble, along with the orchestral recordings and performances about to begin in Ukraine, it is now an exciting time. Lecture recitals, articles about the composer, and preparing the sheet music for publication are ongoing. We hope you will enjoy and make use of the information on this website.
